WANTED: 3 Ways parents can stay sane while shopping for children’s clothing.

You hear it most of the time throughout the year from parents. How to find adequate children’s apparel that the parent can afford plus the clothing is comfortable is also in the choices of right size for the child. Is environmental safe from dyes and the clothing is easy-going on the child’s skin. Moreover, the child will actually wear without appearing to look “funny” or “outdated” to classmates when they are in school.

This is a matter that I frequently hear from exhausted parents especially friends who are single parents and who are tired of the same old ways for shopping for children’s clothing. As a writer who is currently taking Coursera social marketing courses through Northwestern University in the School of Journalism and Marketing Communications field; this is a topic of interest I believe for parents everywhere. I found two articles highlighting those looking for adequate children’s clothing.
This is a great example of the kind of frustration some parents have in finding girl’s clothing by Kelly Wallace on CNN. There should be more clothing options for girls instead of just pink and ruffles on most girls’ clothing. As one parent has said, “The more options girls have that they see…the less limitation’s they will perceive that they have.” One woman has started a clothing collection that has girl’s suits for family occasion called Suit Her because she was tired of shopping in the boys department for girl’s suits which seem to be never made of girls ages 5 to 12.

Another great illustration is how one mother (the family room blog by Mary a contributor to this blog site.) goes through a slew of online shopping to find long pants for her daughter and how she has tried shopping in stores and hand me downs from friends but since her daughter is past clothing for children under six, those types of solutions do not work anymore. She has given tips on where to shop and what girls should wear under dresses/skirts.

Drawing on these two articles of hearing parents complain about shopping for adequate children clothing. I have listed three actions that I would recommend to parents shopping for children’s clothing.

  •              Create Partnerships – It is better for parents to work together such as parents of a community/classroom to exchange clothing with each other this way it saves people time and money on kids clothing.
  •             Return Policies – As a parent make sure to check all stores including those online to see what their return policies are with kids clothing.
  •       Voice your opinion – This is how many children’s clothing lines (especially girl’s clothes) have started because of disappointment of shopping for girls clothing in the boys clothing department.

So starting now parents need to come together and voice sentiments to children clothing manufacturers on what they would like see for the future generations to have so those parents will not end up frustrated as the ones today with children’s clothing options.
